China but no stars

G,day all
I am currently chillin out in Dali China using my guesthouse's free internet and suckin' down a few tinnies (bottles actually). The problem is that it has been perpetually cloudy so I haven't managed to see any northern stars.

The guy sitting next to me is Chinese but has fully fledged Dreds, It is a sight to behold.

Remember to look out the window of the plane on the way back if you are travelling at night. They turn off the lights and you can see quite a bit above the clouds. It is possible to spot quite a few things including ursa minor.

I still remember the fist constellation I recorgnised, Canis Major, when I travelling back to Australia from London on an old DC10 when I was a kid. I looked out of the plane window and I thought that looks very familiar. Once I had CMa it was easyto find Orion and the other major star patterns.
