Finally got under some dark skies last night after many months. I spent the first three hours on M83. This is my first serious attempt at RGB imaging. This is 50x1min each channel using the DSI II pro and 10" newt.
Looks a tad whispy on my monitor, streaked lines though the arms etc.
Not sure whether it's just me or not.
Darren
Beautiful Peter.....no artifacts obvious on my screen though.
Do yourself a favour...turn the lights off, get out of your seat and
stand 10 feet away...and take in the view....
Thanks for the comments Darren, Craig, Stuart, Steve and Frank. I haven't worked out if the colour on my monitor is out but this M83 image looks similar to other posts I've seen here recently so I'm assuming I'm in the ballpark.
Peter.
ps Steve - thanks for the tip - just tried lights out.
Nicely done Peter. For a first serious attempt at RGB, it looks quite well balanced and natural. Colour is subjective. Providing you as the creator of the image is happy with it, that's all that counts. Hope to see more RGB images in the future. Don't forget you can also use the R channel as a luminance for neb work. Its not a contrasty as Ha, thus making it easier to blend with RGB. A good starting point before cutting your teeth on Ha data.
Cheers Troy - looking forward to seeing what you came up with.
Jase - thanks for the comments. Colour balance sure is subjective and I notice these images look quite different on my work pc than the one at home so I can understand the range of views people have on colour. I based the colour balance in this image on how the individual RGB histograms looked when I processed it - not sure if that is the right approach.
I have some previous monochrome attempts at M83 so might try adding that data as luminance just for fun.
