Celestron CG-5 GO-TO

has anyone used one of these or seen one in action and what are your impressions, thanks knowledgable forum members, l need something to mount a 6" refractor on.

The mount will handle the 6" ok , there is a review in AS&T August edition.

Hey Mick I hear the EQ6 can handle the 6" refractor, come to think of it I have a spare one at the moment with skyscan Goto would you like to buy it

Hi Mick , yes the ASGT will handle the 6" quite easily, I have one that I got with the C11.
Good goto's, built in ST4 autoguider port,and like most Goto's noisey motors, but not as bad as the Meade's.
For visual use it handles the C11 fine,The 11" weighs in at 14kg but is shorter than the 6"
The torque from the long tube of 6" means you won't be able to put much else on the mount, maybe a small guide scope if thats what you are planning.
The hand controller can be updated, but this means buying a expensive cable, or if your'e electronically handy then you can make an updater.
Mine autoguide's well, I also made a 4 button box so I can do manual guiding, this just plugs into the autoguding port, I found out the hard way that it's easy to hit the enter key when using the hand controller buttons for guiding, the scope will slew off then back to the target, not much good when you are 15mins into a shot :-((
