OK, who's is it?

Got home from holidays yesterday. While riding down the New England Highway from Armidale to Tamworth I spotted an Observatory on a very prominent hill. Nearby are a collection of towers on the top of the biggest hill. The Obs was a white dome over a green shed/building - looked like it was a good size too!. I had just passed the 40ks to Tamworth sign I think when it was visible in front on the LHS of the road on top of the hill.

Just for fun, any ideas who's it is?

Al.

I agree Paul - I think that I would do the same thing. Say hello - it could be the beginning of a wonderful friendship.

Mission Impossible...

OK Terry...

Your mission, should you choose to accept it...

I don't know that I'm quite curious enough to drive 5 to 6 hours each way to lob up unannounced...

Maybe someone else might know though.

This post will self destruct in 5 seconds...

Astrologers?!!!

I've had a scan through both Google Earth and Google maps... I can't pick it (yet).

My obs hasn't been around long enough to make GE yet.

It's about an hour south of me so maybe someday I will.
I had heard that it is someone from Tamworth that has been in their local paper displaying a big mirror. I didn't see the article and was told second hand so don't know what it was about.

No. Did you see my footprints all over his website? You're intrigued aren't you Petra? You're looking in the same places I've been.

If we don't manage to solve the mystery online here, I'll send him an email and ask if he knows. The longitude is very close but his latitude is about a degree further south (which funnily enough puts his obs near Loomberah - imagine that?)

I played around in Google Earth and Google maps. I even lowered the "eye" in google earth as low as possible looking south and followed the New England Highway looking south to get a similar view to what I had on the bike, and I did a search on Oziexplorer in the 1:100k and 1:25k maps and while I can't be sure, I think it is located on the hills just south of Bendemeer.

Unfortunately, the main two landmarks I remembered - the observatory and the towers on the highest hill, are not shown on any of the maps or imagery I've looked at (assuming I've been looking in the right places). The hills just south of Bendemeer appear to be the right shape though from memory.
