This is a high quality 3 element barlow, which is made in Japan. It is optically excellent and is in absolute mint condition, as is all of my astronomy equipment. Although the barlow is about 4 or 5 years old it has been used less than 5 times and is essentially "brand new". I still have the original box and endcaps which are included.
The only deviation from brand new is that I have replaced the chromed brass thumbscrew with a nylon thumbscrew, so that it does not mark the barrel of my eyepieces. You can see this clearly in the photograph.
The only reason I am selling this is that I do not use it.
I am not really a barlow person and only use them to reach "in between" magnifications which I cannot reach with my native eyepieces, to suit the prevailing seeing condition limits, when necessary. When I do use a barlow, I have a 2.5X TV Powermate which I use with my 1.25" eyepieces; and I have a 2" 2X Televue Powermate and an Antares 1.6X barlow which I use with my 2" eyepieces. The Shorty Plus, as good as it is just doesn't get used. I thought about selling this a few years ago but didn't bother because I didn't need the money. The only reason I am selling it now is that I figure in the current tight economic climate with unfavourable exchange rates, someone might appreciate an excellent barlow at a good price.
The best new price you will find at present is about $135 + postage. I paid about $160 for it when I bought it.
I will sell it for $75 including postage to anywhere in Australia. That is 1/2 price for someone that needs a good barlow and has a limited budget.
