Nice perspective Bert. Interestingly there is more size difference between the two than we had imagined

Another nice job Bert.

I remember doing similar B&W fields with A Pentax 300mm and 95mm lens and 6X7 camera back in the mid 80's.

Great FOV

Mike

What a picture!! Just love the clarity and perspective.

I've often had a look at these two but didn't realise they were this close together.

Well done Bert.

Thanks for the comments all. Here is a high resolution animated gif of the image and map made with Star Atlas Pro with an image for all you galaxy hunters. I used Registar to align the two.

Animated GIF 5MB

I do wide fields to give me a better mental picture of the relationships or context between objects that are generally imaged at long focal lengths.

One very fortunate consequence of using the fridge is that focus does not change with even major changes in ambient temperature. The whole optical train effectively is kept at a constant temperature to within 0.1C once equilibrium has been reached. In fact if I take a sequence of images while the fridge is cooling you can watch the stars come into perfect focus if the set temperature is the same as the previous imaging run.

Wade the map comes from Star Atlas Pro. I would be lost without it!

For those of you who want a better look, here is an upsized image to 7k pixels wide and enhanced with RL deconvolution in IP at a high jpg quality (as if there is such a thing!). It unfortunately shows every blemish but it is clearer at high mag.

7k pixels wide 13.7MB
