NGC 2014 and NGC 2020

NGC 2020 is the blue nebula formed by a Wolf Rayet star.

I used some techniques I found useful on my recent Carina Dwarf Galaxy image (such as k-sigma stacking of images) that brought out much more detail than the original processing of this image.

LRGB image 120m L=R, 60m R ,60m G, 60m B BRC-250 ST-X10ME.

Very nice Steven.

Which program offers K-sigma stacking?

Greg.

Thanks Greg.

I use AIP4WIN. The book is also good.

Using conventional stacking such as average or sum the Carina Galaxy was lost in the skyglow.

K-Sigma stacking is like median combining images.

While median combining images deals effectively with eliminating errant pixel values, such as cosmic ray hits, satellite trails etc, the signal to noise ratio of the combined image is not as high as other combining methods such as averaging or summing the images.

K-sigma stacking allows you to set the parameters as to what is defined as an errant pixel value.

It also has an excellent background normalization process which allows very faint detail to be separated out of the background noise.

Steven

Really lovely image Steven. The framing sets this apart from other images I've seen of the region. I'm guessing you had some troubles with the green channel given some of the star hues, though it's not a distraction to the visually pleasing vista you've portrayed. Well done.

This is an issue with the first generation Astrodon filters.
