ISS - 9th April

Hi guys

Here's an image of the ISS from last week, 9th April.

I missed the best part of the pass (overhead) because I couldn't find the ISS in the finderscope. I eventually found it once it had passed overhead and my hand-tracking was good - I got loads of frames with the ISS captured, but very few were sharp and usable so I’m not overly happy with the results. My shutter speed was too long again and the seeing wasn’t good.

The solar panels flared while I was capturing - the image on the left shows very bright solar panels (earlier less sharp images showed them even brighter. The image on the right shows a shadow across the solar panels, probably from one of the radiators.

More here:

International Space Station, 9th April 2009

Thanks for looking.

Look at that detail, very nice capture on the run Mike.

It must be hard to get the exposure right and then to get the solar panels catching more light and over exposing.

Excellent capture Mike,

Looks great, you seem to have mastered the knack of capturing the ISS, which I would think is definitely a non trivial task.
Well done.

Cheers
Trevor

Nothing wrong with that Mike, I reckon credits deserved by the planning processes then putting it all together with the capture,There is a lot of time involved (and luck) but it has paid off in the image....Top Stuff.
Cheers Kev.

Hi Mike,

wow, great pic! I have never tried anything like that. I think I will do it now with mit 12.5" Dobson and the Philips webcam. But I think it is very difficult.

cheers

Well done Mike, I agree with RB, the ISS is a very difficult target, some nice detail there.

Thanks guys, your comments are appreciated.

I did try again 2 days later but it was so early in the evening no stars were visible and I couldn't pre-focus. I tried using a tree but it wasn't far enough away, so all of my AVI consisted of was black followed by large white blob.
