Best Saturn from 10/04/2009 with new Peltier cooler

Hi All,

My processing regime takes a lot longer than it used to, however I think the extra effort is worth it. This is the best of 4 RGB's taken on the 10/04/2009 utilizing my new Peltier cooling system. Each channel was a capture of 2000 frames. With Registax V5 set at 95% a minimum of 1200 frames were stacked for each channel.

This is possibly the best RGB image I have taken of Saturn.
There are a couple of cloud or storm features present that I have indicated and labeled.

Thanks for looking
Regards
Trevor

Nice Trevor,

The extra processing is certainly paying off.

Well done Trevor, definitely improving! Got a short while yet on Saturn before it gets too far into the early evening sky, but next year it's higher again :-)

cheers, Bird

Thanks Geoff, the rings were open 3.07 degrees for this image. The current slight increase in ring opening is only temporary, due to the geometry of Earths orbit relative to that of Saturn. The rings will close and be edge on in September, but when that occurs Saturn's orbit will be taking it to close to the Sun, relatively, for us to observe this happen.

Thanks Bird, the R channel for this RGB is the highest res R channel I have ever captured of Saturn. I do appreciate the opinion of a planetary imager of your stature

Thanks Darren, it is a great temptation to just quickly run avi files through Registax without any pre or post processing but using Virtual Dub and ppmcentre pre Registax V5 and then Astra Image Pro and Photoshop CS4 post, does make a difference to the final result. Of course being fastidious with collimation and focusing and have good seeing all contribute.
