ISS over Brisbane, 9 April 09

Hi all,

Here is a shot of the ISS passing between Jupiter and Mars at 4:45 this morning. Predicted mag was -0.6. It brightened a bit during this 30sec exposure - looks like I captured a glint of sunlight off the solar panels.

Cheers,
Stephen

Nice Stephen, that was a few minutes after it passed over here, heading north

It was a -2.0 pass here, but seemed to flare. Got very bright at one stage.

I captured a few frames but the shutter speed was too short again Hopefully will get something usable.

I like that shot Stephen. The gum trees definitely add something to the shot. Well planned.

Thanks for the comments Mike, Darren, Jeanette, Paul and Liz! I was fortunate to have the almost full moon directly behind me, providing some illumination on the gums in the foreground. (Also fortunate to have two clear mornings in a row! First time for a while.)

Hope you captured some good frames Mike.

Cheers,
Stephen

Thanks Vincent. This is the first time I've captured one of these flares. Am I right in thinking they have only started since the recent panels were added?

Cheers,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Nice image.

The ISS flares on odd occasions just as the HST does.
Attached is a ISS flare from 06.

Hi Chris,

this one seems to have the info you need - I think.

It definitely shows you where they are right now, but I haven't played with it enough to find if it shows you when they're next over your location

Yes Chris, it is Heavens Above. The details for Brisbane are here :

http://www.heavens-above.com/?Loc=Br...t=24&TZ=UCTm10

You can set your location (and then bookmark it), and it will predict all passes for the next 10 days.

Cheers,
Stephen
