NGC 3199 in H alpha

Yet another attempt at NGC 3199..this time with an ED127/QHY8/EQ6/Baader 7nm H alpha filter

http://www.flickr.com/photos/9178472...36577/sizes/o/

This is 9 x 20 minute subs

This is a challenging object-needs more exposure , or maybe a dedicated mono CCD rather than a one shot; actually looks much better on my processing PC compared to my internet PC-I really need to calibrate the two monitors (how? )

Its somewhat better than my last effort with the same camera but a smaller scope-an ED80

but still not quite there unfortunately

comments and suggestions appreciated

Intriguing target Narayan. I've not seen this before. More exposure...and you've taken 9x20min subs! hmmm.... I like it. Reminds me of a sharpless object. Thanks for sharing. Keep them coming.

Nice clean image Narayan, As for monitor calibration, there is a lot of calibration tools out there but I think you are better getting a tool which actually does a full visual test on the monitors. I use a Spyder2 which is available from most good camera shops for about $150 and works quite well.

Keep at it mate, your Ha images are beautiful.

reprocessed the H alpha version with a better monitor:

one and a half hours of RGB data added thereafter
