after heaps of rain and cloudy nights waking up just after midnight and being cloudy last night was a beauty went to bed early and it was raining awoke at 12.30am and man o man it was the clearest night for a long time the milky way was so clear it was as you could reach out and touch it saturn was crisp leo and virgo revealled some nice galaxies to the south carina was close to the best i'd seen looked at a heap of g/c all clear and crisp it was one of those nights where here on the coast it was a corker and it was starting to cool of hopefully it will be a dryish cold winter and some excellent viewing

Dew heaters I fitted my new scope with them and it has been so far
a very good investment.

I'm looking forward to this winter also, it's better than swarming mozzies.
A good scarf, beanie and a few layers of clothes, some hot coffee or
nice bottle of port... it's all you need. Mind you the old Argo gets hard
to look at after a few ports.

neither am I! I could stand outside naked and take a shower in the dew, but at the price of frostbite ofcourse....

The only thing cold nights are good for is slamming down hot chocolates and reminding myself how much I detest melbourne's climate

yeah i do that but when i have finally got something to view in the eyepiece i get a look at it for a minute or so then its all fogged up again
an observatory would be nice

Hartung used to keep his eyepieces in a box with a hot water bottle if I recall correctly.
