I was at the openining of the new office of the Hon Greg Combet MP last week and the guest of honour was the great man Kim Beazely himself - like Al Gore in 2000, Kim was the priminister we were meant to have in 1998...ah, se la vi.....
I thought of something else when I read this. In parliament Question Time two weeks ago Julia Gillard called Christopher Pine "a mincer" and "a poodle". Then I wondered.... If he became the leader of this country of the next election, would he instead be the Primemincer or the Primepoodle??
In an interview later she said; "In a choice between macho and mincing, I would have gone for macho myself.''
So Julia would make him the Primemacho!!
^2
(Humorously, Hansard say "mixer" instead of "mincer" !)
Pine later declared himself after this "unembarrassable", and he then said "I'm interested in substance and outcomes, and she's interested in witty one-liners that get on the television..." By the best bit was another alleged retort by Julia Gillard. ".. clearly, he doesn't watch news or current affairs programmes, but he is obviously a big fan of "Kath and Kim" !! Classic.
On Gillard there was an absolute classic when Tuckey thought he could take her on . Sadly the youtube vid is gone now, it was one of my all time favourites.
Quote:
Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard was receiving cheers from the government ranks as she promoted its industrial relations changes when Mr Tuckey jumped to his feet.
"Is this now going to be the policy of yourself (Speaker Harry Jenkins) that the parliamentary chamber is going to be something of a football field and we're going to have cheer squads?" Mr Tuckey said.
"We could bring some in."
Laughter echoed throughout the chamber .....
Ms Gillard was quick to retort: "Thank you very much Mr Speaker and I'm sure we will all live in fear of the dimension of the Member for O'Connor's cheer squad when it turns up."
It reminds me of a recent "brush with greatness" that I experienced...
When my family and I were on the way the USA for our recent big move here, we ran into Peter Costello, Bob Hawke and his wife at the Sydney QANTAS club...Oh I wish we had the camera where we could hve gotten to it. It was pretty cool!
