A Quick Lulin

Had a go at Lulin with the D200 at prime focus in the 6 inch reflector and EQ3 with RA drive at our monthly gathering at the pony club.

4x30 second exposures at iso 1250 + dark
3x30 second exposures at iso 2000 + dark

Stacked in DSS and It really needed to be pushed in ACDCpro, hence the poor result.
Really needed some longer exposures but, was cut short due to cloud.

Cheers
Deeno

More data would have been nice, but you've done well with what you did manage to capture.

IYA2009 greetings from Nova Scotia! Is this forum open to northern hemisphere observers too (once registered)? I was observing Lulin about 9 hours before you took your photo Deeno. After studying the starfield of your photo on Starry Night, I would say you took your exposure about 12:41 UT Feb28th when it was near the 5.2 mag star Nu Leonis. How close am I? I was observing Lulin last at 03:51 UT, Feb 28 (23:51 AST local time Feb 27) At that time it was about 1 degree west of Regulus after having observed its close pass beneath Regulus earlier in the evening. It is neat that this comet is so conveniently located for both hemispheres to observe each night.

Nice one Deeno.

I think it was worth your effort to capture it as you have done here.
A tail is visible and the colour looks OK on my screen too.

Well done mate.

Thx for the Plossls too.

Geoffro.
