That was fun!

Just managed to have my first eyeballin' of comet Lulin.

A fairly easy target in 10x50 binos from light-polluted Brisbane. Very pleasantly surprised.

Would there be any reason why we couldn't see this comet in Perth? If not, which direction do we point in ?

Cheers,

Sounds like you had great views of the comet, Petra .

Hey Kev .... is that a Starry Night Map? Looks like it, but the comet is not showing on mine at all yet, even when I put the date forward to 24/2, and its up to date???

There is a fair bit of interest in Comet Lulin from the media here in Brisbane. Brisbane Extra came into Sirius Optics last week to do a story on the shop and they wanted to know more about the comet. Think I made a boo boo on the distance the comet will be from Earth on 24th. I think I said 600,000km instead of 60 million, may have been distracted by the journalist, she was very lovely indeed. Anyways the story airs tomorrow on Extra in Brisbane at 5.30pm with a showcase of the shop.

It is a very clear naked eye object here in Cootamundra, through the scope you can actually see the movement over time, very obvious when you try to photograph it, there is significant movement in the course of 2 x 80 second shots with a 5 second delay.

Cheers
