Comet Lulin 19Feb09

Hi all,

Here's a couple of shots of Lulin this morning. When I first went out (3:45am) the sky was very clear, and through 7x50 binocs I think I could make out a tail pointing towards Spica - does this sound right? (I think I can just make it out in the images as well, pointing towards the top right corner.)

Unfortunately by the time I had the camera set up and focussed on the comet, there was a bit of fog drifting in which made the comet less clear. Still, I persisted with a few photos and the best couple are here. Taken with the 70-300mm lens on about 220mm, f/5.6 and about 10 sec exposures at 1600 iso. I managed to capture a satellite in the second one as well.

Hopefully there will be clear skies without fog on the weekend!

Cheers,
Stephen
