Andromeda Galaxy
Hello Everyone,
This is an image I took of the andromeda galaxy using a canon 350d dslr attached to a williams optics 66mm refractor, it is a single image, 3 min exposure @800 iso, processing in photoshop using the curves function.
Thanks to brett for encouraging me to put this on the forum.
Cheers,
Wombat

Very impressive. I have tried a few times for Andromeda, but with no success.
I would be curious to hear how you got this sort of scale. Did you use a barlow in the mix?

Hello,
Did not use a barlow just a camera adaptor to the 66mm refactor

Darrell, M31 is a whopping great big galaxy... from tip to tip its around 3.5~4x the width of the full moon... 400~550mm with a DSLR sized sensor is required to fit it all in...
Wayne.. Nice shot for a single sub! Next year spend a few hours on it and you'll be amazed how much you can get!

That may explain my lack of success - I knew it was big, but I thought I would still loose a bit of scale through the viewfinder. I will have to try again. With my Meg90 I should be able to get something.

the M90 should do the trick... My old Megrez102 would just about fit it in the frame of a DSLR sized chip...

Hi Wayne,
Top effort considering you have so little data. Definitely try for more signal next time and I think you will be amazed at how much detail you will get.
Keep posting your images.
Regards
Trevor

well done
as many have said, a good outcome for a single frame, you'll obviously get even better s/n with multiple frames staked
cheers

The only thing wrong with posting this image Mr Wombat is that....it's a bleedin northern hemisphere object
....but we won't beat you too hard
Taking an image and seeing the result is great fun whether it's a marathon multiple night effort or a simple single 3min shot

Nice single shot Wayne!
Don`t know how you got over the mountains at Mt George to get this. You must be up on a higher spot!
You wouldn`t be more than 10kms in a straight line.
cheers Gary

Glad to see you did post that image wombat. That image really jumped out at me.
Hopefully more to come in the future.
Can't wait to see what you can do with your c9.25.
