Selling on the forum ... can someone clear this up for me?

i recently answered one of the "for sale" ads in the forum, not really because i wanted the item, more because it was very close to me, and i hadnt up until then, thought of buying one etc.

anyone, i gets a reply to my PM expressing my interest, saying "i have had quite alot of interest in this item, therefore i would like you to submit a bid, and the highest bidder will get it."

Doesnt this seem a bit off? i mean, does this follow the code of conduct? i thought if you wanted to auction something you put it on Ebay, and when you posted the ad here, the price you wanted, was just that, the price you where willing to take for it, i mean, if your selling it, you obviously dont need it, so just post a fair price and be done with it? TBH, i always thought the unwritten rule with this kind of thing was "first in, first served" and that was the very reason for replying "PM Sent", and not starting an auction onsite?

As a result of which, i have now lost all interest in the item.

what do you think?

Well...if someone posts a price for the item, then that is the price. End of story. Unless they indicate they are willing to be flexible on price.

But that's something altogether different to posting a price and then privately asking you to engage in a bidding process.

I'd report it to the mods as conduct contrary to the spirit of the site and possibly in violation of the website's code of conduct or TOS.

Although you have also admitted you didn't really want the item, despite sending a PM. Technically, that's tyre-kicking and can be quite irritating in itself.

sorry, thats not what i mean, i could have worded it better. What i meant was, i didnt really want one before i seen it, that is, i wasnt actively seeking one, until i seen it, and thought i would quite like it.

The requirements of selling in the Icetrade section is quite clear in the Terms of Service particularly the last paragraph.

While not specifically stated, if an item is up for auction the advertisement should clearly state that the item is for auction to the highest bidder.

In the interest of resolving this issue amicably I am locking this thread and the moderators will deal with the issue privately via pm.
