Large areas of Victoria were 'blacked out' today into the evening. Many people were distressed, traffic was in chaos, public transport off the rails, no cricket on TV, McDonalds had no aircon...... just terrible. BUT I was jumping for joy - a chance for a really dark sky in suburbia.
Listened to the radio, forecast as for power to be back on at about midnight - yahoo!!! Venus looked super, skys were darkening, Sirius popped into vision, things were really cool (but hot temperature wise!).
All set up and ready to play, and guess what???!!!! Street lights, aircon kicked in..... curses. Light levels escalated.....
Hissy fit. Gonna watch the cricket and mutter a bit. We aren't doing too good there either!
Yeah, a sub station blew up, knocked out power in the Western Suburbs and CBD too.
Hilarious that Lynne Klosky said "Free travel of public transport" on a 45 degree day to make up lost time, only for the system to shutdown at peak hour on the way home. Flinders street was at a standstill.
Apparently most of the weekend is gone for a lot of people, as the sub wont be going for another 36 hours ish.
