First attempt at f3.3 through ED80 Horsehead and Flame

Well, this is my first ever attempt at the flame and horsehead region. I used a DSI II on an ED80 at f3.3 (reducer), piggybacked and guided with a DSI on LX200 10".

Yes, I tried to remove some dust spots in photoshop!

Clouds rolled in so I only managed to get 15 x 60sec shots in Altz (wedge still on order!)

Any feedback appreciated..and thanks to this forum for the learnings posted every day!

Paul,

I'm not much at processing so won't comment on that but congratulations and what a thrill to see your first image come in and there it is the amazing Horse Head Nebula.

A good first attempt Dr Paul.

The DSI II is a lot more sensitive than the original DSI and when it's combined with the f/3.3 FR the exposure time can be greatly reduced with the same results. You could probably experiment around 21 to 30 seconds and around 50 to 80 images while using Alt/Az.

If you are using Envisage you could also experiment by turning off the auto contrast and experimenting with the settings manually. It's all good fun and I think you'll be surprised with the results.

Cheers

Thanks all for encouragement.

Ric, good point you make - I will try that and let you know! So just to clarify, I capture using the envisage setting and manually adjust contrast during capture not in post processing?
