Our lake Burns

Hi Guys, well one certainly gets the message about how dry i really is when Ballarat is covered in dust storms, and our lake catches fire.

Yes at 4am this morning I woke to the smell of smoke and quickly got up to investigate, only to discover later that our central attraction, Lake Wendouree, was fully ablase.

Yea I know it sounds strange, but the poor thing, Our lake, that is has been bone dry for years, in the grip of this lasting drought.

I can remember some time ago it was so full that it lapped the surrounding road and walking path.

Pretty sad to see actually

You need some of our rain we've been getting...I'd send some down but I don't have a bucket big enough!!!!

Things sure are pretty crook when your lake catches fire.
Up here in the Hill we have had a couple of massive electrical storms come through that have dumped a couple of inches of rain, last night and this afternoon.

We have many Lakes within a 50 kilometer radius of Ballarat and not a drop in any of them.

We have to water any plants we have with left over washing machine water and that is it, the ground is so dry around the house it is actually moving and the doors jam from time to time, any things don't look like they will improve in the near future either.

Hi Leon, we have a lake that in the same situation, Lake George has been dry for so long I actually can't remember when it had water in it.

The last time I saw it I was putting out a fire on the northern end.

When I was at school, I remember being told that there was a river in the USA, that flowed into Lake Ontario, that was officially clasified as a fire risk because of all the foul pollutants and oil floating in it That river however had stuff called water in it, whereas your "rivers" I assume were all bone dry

We have a man made lake here in town, Lake Albert. I have been saying for years to drain it and plant trees. It hasn't been full for many years now and our Mayor has this great idea to drain water from the river, which is struggling anyhow, and pump the water into the lake. Really good idea, bloodly polliticians.
