Ngc 2736 Herschel's Neb

Hi folks,
had the lum for this one since Nov last year.
Have had to wait for the moon and also weather before
I could get the colour data for this.

Very faint object and as usually could have used more data
but DLST is a killer if you have to get up for work the next day.
damn our state gov for extending it for a month

There were some gradient issues, but have finally worked out where
from. Had all led's taped up, except my KVM device.
So hopefully no more background extraction routines.

Here's a link to my front page if you'd like to take a
peek at my rendition.

http://www.baytop-observatory.com/

Hope you're all able to get out.
All the best for now.
Rich

Very nice image Rich. The fine fillaments set off the red star in the centre beautifully. Lots of fine detail and well composed.

Rich that is really quite an excellent image, your image processing is really very good. As you know I am not a noise-a-phobe but in this case I think the delicate nature of the object suffers just a bit with the excess noise. Might be an idea to take a few steps back and back off on the noise a tad and see what it looks like?

I wanted to image this but it is in a big field of not much with my KAI11002 chip so I decided that due to my limited access to imaging time these days I'd pass on it. Your tighter FOV suits it perfectly though

Nice job

Mike

I agree with Mike that it`s a excellent image. All those fine filaments really stand out so nicely. Like you mention more data would really help but it`s a beaut shot as is.

Thanks Greg,
been on the back burner for a while.
Quite happy with the lum data.
The blue channel was a bit muted and probably should have binned the rgb's.

Thanks Mike for the feedback, very helpful!
I agree with you about the 'over sharpening' on the red component within the object.
I find processing things with this large monitor, its high res and in PS, my images at 100% only fill up about 2/3. If I go to say 134%, things are all pixelated. The only thing I don't like about PS.
To get an accurate view I save the project then view it in Firefox. This way I can enlarge and get exactly how it will appear on the web.
It's a pain, but I might have to do it as a standard in future to ensure I haven't over pushed things.

I can see what you mean with a bigger chip. If it's a small object, then you really need to have something else in the fov... or you waste all that real estate...

Thanks Gaz for your comments.
In retrospect, binning the colour would have greatly helped, or going out to 5min subs would have also.

Thanks guys for taking the time to have a look.
All the best for now.

Nice image again Rich ... got to agree with you about day light saving ... I hate it ! We get to have a referendum on it this year in WA and hopefully we'll get rid of it ... fingers crossed

Hi Mike,
thanks for that!

You guys are lucky to have a referendum.
These idiots here think that by aligning ourselves with the eastern states, it will help business...... frogs shizzen....
Why not just do things an hour earlier.

Living over here in the far west, it's like we're in no mans land... neither here nor there, sort of thing. Suns still up while in Adelaide it's well set.

Put real people into politics, not these groomed wankers that wouldn't know jack about down to earth problem solving.. or how the real people are doing it...

Not to mention our great ecologist/ rock star who used to talk the talk, now in the right position to walk the talk and can't even ban plastic bags.....

(ooops! sorry administrators...... my spleen just vented involuntarily)

Yeah don't get me started

Any way, sounds like your new location is perfect for imaging.
Off the coast, no light pollution, not too far away from the big smoke.
Good choice!

All the best for now
Rich

Aaahh Louie,
lucky it didn't come out the other end.

Isaac Asimov wrote in one of his Foundation's series, When the Bureaucracy becomes too big, civilisation stagnates and goes backward.
Mmmm, now that sounds familiar...

Thanks Alex,
yes I think these remnants are very special.
The colour gets you in, then you have a read about how they are created and it becomes all the more fascinating.

Thanks guys
Rich
