Pricing

I wonder sometimes how retailers in Oz justify their pricing. Has anyone else noticed the price disparity in advertisements through the lastest ed of S&T. Example one retailers is advertisining an Orion EON 120ED at $2759 while the other hows $3495, $700 difference and other items are similarly higher.

What gives no wonder noone buying.

It pays to shop around. You may find it has to do with what the $AU was worth at the time they bought it, whether or not they are trying to clear shelves, are they just an internet site or do they have a shop etc. You often find that Dealer A may be more expensive than Dealer B for one product, but cheaper for another one.

If all shops had all items at the same price, it would be a boring world

Competition and choice is good. Shops need to differentiate themselves from one another in a number of ways, price is one of them.

Yeah...

Let 'em charge whatever they like, I say.

It's then up to individuals to do their homework and shop around, as with all commercial operations and potential purchases.

If enough people compared prices and spent their dollars where they get the best deal, businesses charging OTT prices would soon be forced to lower their mark-ups in the face of dwindling trade

i am lucky, in the fact that i can get my brother in the UK to ship anything out that i need, from someone coming into Australia, i tend to find that the geographical location of the place hinders costs, that is, its so damn far away from anywhere else!

I thought Andrews was a very good site (is there a thread that lists all suppliers and shops in Australia?) although again, when i looked in Europe and the UK, they where expensive by comparison. I think the fluctuation of the dollar against other currencies has some say in it, but i think your just getting charged up, because of where you are.
