HEQ5 overhaul

Hi all,
just thought I'd post an observation I made while overhauling my HEQ5 mount recently. The main aim was to remove the black glue (Synta grease) from the drives.

When fully disassembled, I found that the RA worm gear was locked down very tight, and it took a reasonable amount of force to turn it by hand.

The solution was to loosen off the "lock nut / collar" that holds the end of the bearing enough so that the gear now turns easily.
Haven't had a chance to try it out but logic tells me it should be better than it was.
Apart from replacing the grease, I reckon the overhaul was worth it just to fix that problem

cheers
Mark

I don't have the courage to go opening up my mount and tinker around in there.

Troy,
I know what you mean.. It took me some time to take the plunge and do it. I followed the directions on this web site: http://ozastro.dyndns.org/ra_lube_adjust.html
and it worked out OK. Probably a bit easier than I thought.
