Exclamation Cirrus Anti Rainbow

On Monday 12th Jan. I happened to look up ( as you do) to see a bright Cirrus bow almost over head. On further inspection , a bow also had garnered the Sun which was not as bright and was obscured by cloud. The brightest past of this bow was horizontal to the sun to the North which was by now low in the sky. I presumed that this was a Sun Dog. The Southern Dog was not seen due to Cloud. Did any one else see this phenomenon around the north side of Brisbane/Caboolture area. Regards Zub.

Hi Zubenel! Nice shots - I think the overhead one was probably a circumzenithal arc. It is often seen if sundogs are visible.

Here's a link with a bit of info on these arcs. A tour around this website is highly recommended - there are some great shots, and excellent information on all variety of atmospheric phenomena.

Thanks for the bouquet Rob.Thanks also for the informative links , some great reading there for a circumzenithal arc novice. I took it with a very expensive Cannon Power shot A550 set on Auto!! Which just goes to show you don't need talent!!I knew we were the witness to something special. It was great timing as we had gathered after a funeral .Something special on the day of a special lady.
Cheers Zub.
