Noticed Ving posted a lighthouse pic, I have taken a few over the past couple of years, so out of interest, post your lighthouse images and give us an idea of the location.

The smaller white light at the front was to warn of Vicoria Rocks, hidden behind the headland here, I assume that if you rounded the point and were unable to see the smaller light you were a candidate for hitting the rocks. The front light is no longer operational.

I've always had a fascination with lighthouses, a friend of mine was fortunate to spend several years as a lighthose keeper around the various Tasmanian lighthouses.
Interestingly the Eddystone Point Lighthouse he described as "Spooky", saying that there was always something eerily uncomfortable about the area.
Lighthouses are no longer manned, at least here in Tasmania, however you can still apply for voluntary work at some of the remote locations, including Deal Island in the middle of Bass Strait and Matsuyker Island. I have heard that the waiting list for Deal Island is around 2 years.

Yep. There is something kind of cool about lighthouses. I remember being a kid and holidaying at Great Yarmouth in England...and also the Isle of Wight...and remember seeing some beauties around those parts which caught my imagination at that age.
Pine Islet Lighthouse relocated to the Mackay Marina. Latitude. 21° 39.5' S, Longitude. 150° 12.9' E. Power source: Vapourised kerosene.

I have taken a few shots of the Nora head Lighthouse and I find this one quite good. Taken with the Nikon D300 and the 70-200 f2.8 VR lens. The lens was set at 130mm and f11 to take this shot and the camera was set at ISO100.

as all the scenery in New Zealand is impossibly pretty and you clearly
have an unfair advantage in that regard.

I like to keep my HDR's looking similar to how I saw it myself when I took the shots. I don't really like that overdone cartoon effect that you can get with HDR processing.
