Help with a pier setup

Hi all
I feel a bit silly but here goes.
I am making a pier for my lxd75 mount, the magnetic variation for my area is 11.3 degrees. When facing magnetic south is that to the east or west.
I live near Bendigo Vic
I have a sneaky its south west but dont want to pour cement on a hunch
Regards John.

Hi John

Go to this webpage and enter your Lat & Long and today’s date. It should then compute the magnetic declination for your input details.

Cheers

Thanks Dennis

Slightly different variation to the last site I used ,11.5 east of mag north
so setting up for south is 195 degrees south west.
sound right?
many thanks

Hi John

In Brisbane for 2009, Magnetic North (Compass) lies some 11 degrees East of Grid North (Map) – see attached file.

So, when I set up my mount with the (magnetic) compass needle pointing due South, then Grid or Map South which is the direction of the South Celestial Pole, lies 11 degrees East – see attached file.

So, if your magnetic declination is also 11 degrees East, then you need to align the polar axis 11 degrees East of the South pointing magnetic needle of your compass.

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks very much Dennis

I'M straight now.
Like the way you used the stick with a center line which would also isolate the compass from any metal bits being at that distance
good stuff.
