This is my first for 2009. The sky finally cleared and allowed this shot and one of M42(yet to be processed).
This Horse is a compilation of 10 X 10 minute images calibrated with Flats, Bias and Darks.
Camera: QHY8
Telescope: Takahashi FS 102
Guided with: ED80 and QHY5
Mount: G11 with Gemini.
The image could probably have done with longer exposures or at least more exposures. Not too sure about wheather I like the spikes but that is the way it was captured so They stay.
Flame looks stunning!! Horse could have done with 15~20 min subs, but its a trade off... a real strong horse head with a big alnitak problem, or nice overall image..
mmmm I must say that is a "inspiration" so to speak. Great image. ahh all i have to do is wait for about 12 months and then i can actually start my imaging obsession
Nice work Doug. Good colour balance presented on the region. Focus looks a little soft or could have been due to smoothing. Still a lovely image to kick off the 2009 imaging season. Well done.
Thanks for all the comments. I think I am guilty of including some data which may have been affected by some high level cloud. I did notice the last couple of frames appeared a bit soft and fuzzy at capture. I will have to do a repro after inspecting each frame individually.
Very good image Doug and yes it will need more exposures to get rid of some noise still visible in it.
With another 10 exposures it will be excellent.
Thanks Martin I may even add some more and longer exposures when I get the Tak back on the mount.
I just put the Vixen back up after some maintenance work on it.
Doug, shorter FL scopes can certainly give a better view of some of the objects up there and this image shows that plus it's Tac sharp. I saw your very nice rosetta and all I see of it with the vixen is the center stars. Looking good.
Doug i am now taking more lights, so it will be a bit more than 4 hours of data on the horse head (hope it comes out right with my non existent processing skills).
