Recommendations on red and white wines for Xmas and New Year

OK ...

I don't know much about wine , looking to buy maybe 3 or 4 bottle of red and or white and or desert wine .

NOT interested in paying big prices but still want something that will be nice with Xmas dinner and on New Year's Eve and will not go off once the bottle has been opened (I am not a drinking man and my wife doesn't drink much , and I am not sure if my 25 yo boy will be home or if he likes wine, and I don't want to have polish an entire bottle once it's open on the same day).

Any recommendations ??

Reds, Wolf Blas Merlot 2007 excellent if you like Merlot and a good price too.

Whites don't touch they make me very very drunk to easily must be the high sugar content

Cheers Hic !!!!

Mount Pleasant Elizabeth is a wonderful aged white (semillion) from the hunter and is not expensive. Same goes for their Shiraz called Phillip.
Go and have a taste. It's only a ~40km drive to Pokolbin from Gateshead.

My favourite is "Asti Riccadonna".
An excellent all round fruity, white bubbly.
Cheap as.. around Christmas time.
< $10 per.

You may be lucky (meant in the nicest way, of course)
& you boy will not show up to hog all the Asti & leave you
wishing you'd bought more.

Merry Christmas to all.

Hi Ian, you usually can't go wrong with a Merlot or Shiraz.

I usually find that around the $20 mark will get you a fine tasting wine.

I havnt matured up enough to enjoy the fine tastes of red/white wine
I still love my UDL cans
But once upon a time i was a waitress at a fine restaurant and the Brown Brothers was always the best seller spend around $20 a bottle and you will be a winner
Oh i recommend for the 21 year old, put in a few cans of red bulls a few cruisers and a few cans of bundy and bourbon and you will be a winner there too
