Some more images from my trip to Berlin.
The first and third images are HDR compositions.
First image:
Here is the Reichstaggebäude (Parliament building), more commonly known as the Reichstag, taken from the grounds in front of it (Platz der Republik). I had to perform perspective correction on this image.
There is a lot of history related to this building, which you can read elsewhere on the Internet. But, I'll write a few lines on brief highlights.
The building began construction in 1871 and opened in 1894. It became the house of the first parliament of the German Empire (Reichstag).
In 1933, a fire which burnt through the building. Hitler, seizing the opportunity, blamed the communists for the fire, and grabbed power. The fire was supposedly lit by a Dutch communist who was later beheaded for the crime.
The Soviets raised their flag there in 1945 to signify the defeat of Nazi Germany.
The Reichstag lay in ruin until after the reunification of Germany when the world-renowned architect Lord Norman Foster led the reconstruction effort. Reconstruction completed in 1999 and the building became the home of the new German parliament, the Bundestag.
Second image:
Looking towards the left of the Reichstag (towards Karl platz), I found these gorgeous lights shining high into the sky. This is a two-image mosaic.
Third image:
The glass cupola is the highlight of the building. The glass dome is supposed to signify a transparent parliament. This shot was taken from inside looking up the spiral. Wonderful architecture.
The night-time photographs were taken around midnight, if I remember correctly. The trains operate 24/7 so there was no problem getting back to the hotel.
