Brisbane observers: HST and Jupiter tonight

Hi All,

For those in Brisbane, the Hubble Space Telescope (mag 1.7) will be passing about 0.5 deg north of Jupiter at 7:30 this evening, and all 4 major satellites of Jupiter will be visible. Sounds like a good photo opp - lets hope the weather is kind!

Cheers,
Stephen

Good luck, Stephen, and thanks for the heads-up.

I'll be out there

If you're watching at the time it might show up on my allsky page. It's updated once per minute and shows the last 15 minutes.

Jupiter is currently visible low in the west with the moon blazing...in the east..

Missed it

Pity it was a bit overcast where I live, so I missed it. What was that link again (I just saw the weather map). Great site though by the way!

Hi,
Do you mean the link above ? That's my weather page, it has a 15-minute animation of the sky above my site with images taken once per minute and a BOM animation of the last 6 hours of satellite images, downloaded an hour apart..

The idea is to show the sky from below and the sky from above my location.

The Allsky camera image is generally blown out around full moon, but when the moon is small, it easily shows the milky way, brighter stars and thin clouds much dimmer than can be seen with the naked eye. Handy for keeping an eye on the sky for imaging purposes.

That's pretty cool. Only 1.5s exposure?! Impressive.
