'puter just died...

I've been processing a few HDR shots I took around Lostock this afternoon but have experienced some problems. Very uncharacteristically, I got 2 blue screens of death, which had me wondering what the problem was... then it "died" completely.

Pressing the power button, it seemed the switch wouldn't latch in.... hmmm... I let it cool for a little while and it started. At first I thought the CPU /fan might be full of dust and it had a bit in it, but after poking around I noticed the power supply fan wasn't running.

So it looks like a new power supply is required... in the meantime my HDR images will have to wait......

Al.

Yeah, I don't think its a biggie... its just a bit frustrating to have all my images in there and can't get at them to process or post...

Just been talking to my son (studying computer science at uni) who has a spare power supply... so hopefully I'll have it up and running tomorrow night. That's quicker than mail ordering one!

Yeah that's happened to me too Al.
I nearly had a heart attack, but I replaced the PS with a nice beefy unit and it was sweet.

I don't think the problem is in the same league as your current misfortunes Dave, but thanks anyway. I hope you get you scope sorted soon.

Unhappy Its not as simple as I thought...

I just swapped power supplies... no joy.

I gather the motherboard tells the power supply what to do, so maybe it's more serious than I thought.

With the power supply turned on there is power to the USB ports (my card reader LEDs light up) but nothing else.

When I've just turned the switch on at the back of the power supply, and then press the power button on the PC, the power LED flashes, and I get a pulse through the speakers. Otherwise, there's no action.

I've had a look at the motherboard for burns but none evident, and I've checked connections and blown it all out in case some dust was bridging some tracks on the motherboard...

Running out of ideas here... so I'll appreciate any ideas others may have...

Might be a new motherboard is required?

Al.

board could be in no-mans land
take ram out - then put it back in (make sure power is unplugged)

if that don't work - take the power and com cable off the hard drive

Thanks Jen! For the time being all is good... Thanks to Geoff! Time will tell now...

I still don't think having a broken computer would drive me to house work...
