Hi all, found you by accident (Google search for something else).Anyway have been a keen amateur astronomer for more than thirty years and have just retired after working for CSIRO for thirty years.Had a browse over the various topics etc and found it good.My main interest at the moment is astrophotography and if I get it right here is a picture of Carina taken with a
Canon 300mm F2.8 and a Canon 20D.
Hope this all works.

Hi to all. This picture is a stack of 9x4.5min exposures at an ISO of 800.With a Hutech nebula filter. The inherent camera noise was subtracted from each frame in Photoshop before stacking with Registar. Then adjust the usuals in Deepsky image processing.
The Canon 20d and 300mm F2.8L were mounted piggyback on a Saxon 600mm F5 as guidescope with a toucam and guidedog etc. controlling a HEQ5 mount
via a parallel port relay box.

This picture does not do the original any justice as all frames were 25M tifs
derived from raw.

Hi Scott,it is thanks to you that I can now get rid of noise at high ISO,s.Here is one I did last night which was very windy!. 300mm @ F2.8.
9X6.5min at ISO 800 using a Hutech nebula filter
12x4.5min at ISO 800 using a Hutech light pollution rejection filter
Removed noise from TIF frames in Photoshop, stacked each set with Registar
Adjusted both resulting images and then stacked the two with registar

Welcome Avandonk.....great images

How do you go with filters if you have different size diamater lenses or did you just buy one for your 300mm....???????

And where did you purchase the filter from....I imagine direct from Hutech.

The Canon 300mm F2.8L has a filter holder at the rear of the lens. This holder takes 48mm filters. The same as you would use on a 2" eyepiece.Yes I did get them directly from Hutech. The really nice thing about their filters or at least these two when you interchange the filters it does not affect focus! They are expensive but are of very high optical quality.
