Question What settings do you guys use in Registax wavelets?

Hi guys, just wondering for planetary shots what settings do you all use in the wavelet area on the 6 sliders. I have been going pretty minimal and would like some help as I am sick of just winging it. Really appreciate any help that can be given. Learning is fine, but would like some idea what and why instead of just groping in the dark.

For the most part, I think it depends on the quality of the original image.. for example, a nice stacked image @ f/20 will be able to put up with more wavelet processing than my tiny f/5 images

From what i've learnt, from playing around and from reading about settings that others use, I use linear mode, and either:

- Use a step mode of 2 and modify layers 1, 2 and 3 to about 10 or so, give or take +/- 5 depending on how it looks.

or

- Use a step mode of 0 and modify layers 3,4,5 and 6 - 3 is the highest, sometimes around 20-40, and the other layers decreasing so that layer 6 is the least changed.

I also usually reduce contrast and brightness a fraction, but it depends what settings you used in the capture. The LPI might be different than the ToUcam in that respect.

Also, before doing any changes to wavelets, I click RGB shift and "estimate".

Also don't forget to choose a proper processing area size and click in the middle of your object to centre the processing area, or click "do all" to do the entire image.

Good luck!

Paul,
I know what you mean, and then there is V3, which seems even more complex.
In the early days of Mars I simply slid the upper sliders across until I was happy.
These days my 19 year old computer guru son (herafter known as the "slave") is responsible for all processing. I stack them, and provide the raw BMP, and he wavelets them. How he does this I don't know, and really don't want to. I will make a point of taking more notice next time.

Yes please thanks Gary, don't have a slave myself so I have to learn how to do it myself. Redid the tutorial though and learnt quite a lot more as you will see in my latest shots 24 dec.

Thanks Mike for the advice, much appreciated
