My best terrestrial stuff so far ...?

A sunset trip to Redcliffe at low tide gave me a chance to get down on the rocks and take some water action shots as the sky purpled.

The surf wasn't exactly pumping (which was just as well where I was) but still managed to capture a feel of movement from the water.

No HDR but did use a neutral grad filter.

These were all take with the 40D and Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 lens (fast becoming my favourite).

Ta Stephen - that was the effect I was looking for when i went to this spot.


This shot was 13sec at F13. I think the sweet spot (dependent on how vigororus the surf) was around 7-13s. Less and it just seems like blurry waves, more and it no longer even looks like water rather more like fog.

I think this one I pushed a bit far actually.

I really REALLY like those shots Robert... ND filters make taking photos of the coastline so much more rewarding.. That little lens looks like a real stunner, May I ask how it performs at F/2.8?

Might be another thing on the shopping list...

Thanks Alex, I think a Grad filter is a must have item at least when dealing with "mobile" landscapes. HDR not so good here

The Tokina 11-16mm is awesomely sharp all the way to the borders and is very good to excellent all the way from F2.8 upwards. It is a very solidly build and professional feeling lens too. COmes at a consumer grade price (~$700), but make the consumer grade canons feel like plasticy toys. Check out the review on the Photozone web-site
