Lost world

well not quite .. a work colleage told me of this really nice waterfall not far from our farm .. so the wife and i went for a walk last sunday and I took along my new camera.. entering the top of the gorge was a bit of a mission in itself .. a couple of kms driving and then on foot down to the water..Down the creek we go its dropping all the time through a sereies of small waterfalls .. huge cliffs tower above each side as we go deeper into the rainforest.

Huge trees stretch up to the light way above ..round another bend we come across an old weir..the town nearby used to get its water from here decades ago.. its pipes are rusted and half devoured by the passage of time.

This whole area is a stones throw from suburbia but is isolated from it entirely

Down further we come across what resembles a flying fox crossing the gorge
Its made of one inch stainless cable and has massive steel pillars holding it up .. it looks completely out of place
i have since found out water resources put it there after the 74 floods with the plan to send somone out to the middle
in a rageing flood to measure the water velocity underneath .. As the old fella next door pointed out you could never access
this area in flooding weather anyway .. much less get a volunteer to shimmy out to the middle in gale force winds driveing rain and a rageing torent flowing underneath .. so there it sits almost 40 years on and never once used ..its good to know govt depts no longer stupidly waste money like this anymore

further down we come to a wall of vegetation and the creek just dissappears in to a dark cavern no sound of falling water its just gone .
My wife picks her way along the edge and finds some rusty old barb wire
we decide that this must be a way down to the bottom though no one has been down there for a long time .. we work away along the edge of the cliff and indeed there appears to be an old track of sorts down the cliff face ... down we go its overgrown and decidely dangerous .. but you can see the roots and rocks people have picked there way over in days long gone to head down.. at the bottom we arrive at a sunlit rocky beach ..its really a breathtakeing view that my sad pics dont do justice to

Looks like a beautiful spot Graham. I'm sure you're glad you took the time to investigate it.
