Hey Doug,
thanks for taking a peek.
I had a lot of trouble getting any where near what I like with these two faint beggars processing wise, conditions were very average.
Really I was just happy to get something down for such a long hiatus.

Seems you and I are the only imagers left that happily avoid the super smooth look when it comes to processing, bet you have the good'ol film days in your memory too..?
Push your data, push your data, push your data...woot, woot, long live fine scale noise in images

Hey Mike my man

Yes you are spot on, the seeing was really very average with the lum data on N7424. Gradients were top to bottom with the rgb composite and getting it consistent via 'PixInsight' tended to throw the true background neutrality way out.
Although I corrected this in PS, it still was a mother to get anything speckie from the overall composite. There was a lot of noise.
Yes I think we've talked about over noise reduction in images before

... I agree, making something look super smooth when there's not enough data to smooth it out naturally can result in a truely 'plastic' looking image. Denoising too vigurously definately robs ones image of faint star clarity and definition.
Give us a bit of grain man.... and show us that detail...
I came into imaging when it was a toss up between a super tiny chip(the texas instrument 253 or something like that) or me going down what I use to do with B & W film, you know, messy developer in a film tank, slopping toxic stuff aound in the dark.... stop baths and fixer...naaa, I went the tiny chip... man, now that was small!!
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner,
have been down in the big smoke the last 5 days for me ol' girls 80th birthday.
Thanks guys....
All the best
Rich
