DSS problems downloading

I wonder if anyone can help. I have tried twice to download DeepSkyStacker. It looks as if there are an old and a new version on the Web. I have tried both, can't get either to work, comes up withMicrosoft " sorry, have to shut down your computer etc" , can't close down properly my computer etc. Had to get in and delete all traces of the program.
Has anyone else had this problem or should I just stick to my day job!!

Worked fine for me too, you may be getting data corruption during download or disk write. Try downloading to a USB key then install from that.

Cheers

What hardware and which operating system are you running it on Peter?

EDIT: Ok I had a quick look at DSS and they recommend the following:

Quote:
Installation: just unzip DeepSkyStacker.zip in any folder and run Setup.exe.
In case of installation problem (dll is missing...) check that you are using the latest Windows Installer which you can download here. This could be the case especially if your are running Windows XP without the SP2.
So give that a try if you're running XP.

Thanks for your advice, but I downloaded it from a differenr source and it would appear that it is functional.
Now all I needto do is take some shots and follow the bouncing ball!

Thanks all for your help

Peter. If this is any help.
My son down loaded DSS for me this long weekend (WA) without any problems and put a copy on the laptop used for the Astro imaging. He used Virtual Dub to convert long exposed AVI images to BMP and produced good pictures exposed in a darkened room with a book cover picture as the subject, using a focal reducer as the lens - no telescope. The both computers are Windows XP
