Some mono DMK moon and Jupiter shots

It's been a while since I grabbed some lunar images and with the continued poor seeing I thought "why not"???

The 8-day moon offers some interesting imaging opportunities, particularly along the terminator.

Here's:

1. The region containing craters Eudoxus, Aristoteles, Cassini and Theaetetus, as well as Mt Piton, The Alpine Valley and the Caucasus Mts.

2. The Appennine Mts in sharp relief, with shadows cast from the peaks.

3. A mystery crater. Not sure which one, but I was fascinated by the closely bunched central peaks on the crater floor. I'm sure one of our resident moon experts can identify this one.

4. And because I couldn't help myself, a quick Jupiter.

Pics 1 and 2 were taken at the prime focus of the C9.25 - no barlow. Pic 3 was taken with the 3x Televue barlow. All images taken with the DMK 21AF04.

Really looking forward to my new filters arriving and perhaps some nice early spring seeing.

Thanks for looking.

They're excellent, Matt. Nice and sharp and good tonal range.

Jupiter would've been great in colour.

Nice work.

They're great Matt! I especially like Aristillus (3rd one)... that's very good.

I should get out there and do some myself but I've been busy getting jobs out of the way before my POD arrives... it'll be a different story then...

Al.

So, it's either Aristillus or Eratosthenes???

I'm opting for the former, since the latter is still in shadow when the moon is at 8 days old.

Thanks guys.

Excellent shots Matt!

The lunar shots are great particularly the 3rd one. Very sharp and extremely well defined.

Jupiter has come out great as well. Lots of detail. I'm used to these kind of shots, all Mono.

Very well done.

Brilliant set Matt. The Jupiter image is not too shabby at all.. considering seeing etc. I should have pointed my scope there on sunday night but I was rather enthralled with my deep sky shots... (I would have done better sticking to what I know I think )

Very nice indeed.
