Mosquito Killers

My better half was looking around for a good mosquito killer for our impending xmas BBQ and he came across what seemed to be the answer to my mozzie worries: a mosquito repellant that you wear on your wrist! At the moment, I use aeroguard, but that can get slimy and soil all the precious coatings on eyepieces and whatnot. This little device seems ingenius as there is no slathering on of toxic chemicals and the bugs will apparently stay away for miles.
Just click here for more detail on this wristband repellant
Does anyone know if these things really work? I have been trying to find a way to get rid of these buggers for ages and I really don't like using sprays and creams. These critters are the bane of my observing sessions, as I'm sure it is for a lot of others. If anyone has any advice, let me know! Thanks in advance

Hey DD LOL I thought about those zappers but the ones I was looking at don't kill mozzies. Most zappers kill bugs by first attracting them to UV light but unfortunately, these little buggers don't fancy UV! I've seen actual mozzie zappers based on emitting CO2 which is what they are attracted to in us to lure them in. How does your zapper work DD?
Those citranella burners do work to some extent but there is a problem of smoke, though not much. They are rather a cheap alternative.
Ving, the first link you posted seems good. Don't know how the price of that compares to the wrist bands (seeing as that site I listed don't list their prices! grrr).
The second one off ebay doesn't give much information except to say that it has mosquito repellant. What kind is it (I mean, is it natural or like aerogard?) and how is it activated or is it a continual release or something like that? I like the idea of how the wristbands use natural oils and plant scents to repel the mozzies.
I think after xmas, one of these things will be on the shopping list eh!
Thanks guys for your thoughts and comments.

Unfortunately for us humans but lucky for me as an individual, the humble (and profitable) mosquito, ant, cockroach, fly, spider, locust (insert your pest of choice) are rather difficult to repell...my company makes several insecticides that kill the above (and more)

While I think that DEET is one of the best for use on skin...citronella does have some effect but it is localized like most of the other products...they will work (coils, electronic etc.) but they products soon dissapate.

The best situation is where a large area managment plan is put in place...Many councils in the Brisbane area have some really good mosquito control programs combining larvicides and adulticides...In fact, it would not be a stretch to list them in the top tier globally. For them it is not only an issue of comfort for tourism but, one of public health...lots of nasty things can be spread by these vectors...

Sad to say that few other councils (especially around Sydney) actually try and control mosquito populations...

So, in a nut shell...there are not many options besides DEET for skin use...or banding together for area wide management.

Beware of the bugzappers, deodarisers etc, (the small ones that plug straight into the power point) they have supposedly been known to cause fires.
