I just hope some here take my advise and add accidential damage to their contents policies - nothing fraudulent about making a bonefide claim , I'm dambed glad I have the option , and have claimed on it a few times since I added it , once for astrogear.
It could well have been that the mount had serious mechanical damage and beyond a certain point it becomes uneconomic to repair even a gem , ie if it involves a lot of work or parts have to be made , or having to send it overseas to have it repaired. It is up to the repairer and owner to make to make that assessment.
