Star Trails over the viewing field at the Pony Club

Always wanted to have a go at star trails.
Thanks to Icemans recent posts from Nambucca Heads, StarTrails.de. has been downloaded and the first attempt made at our monthly outing at the Pony Club.

Not wanting to spend a lonely night in a dark corner of the field, the D200 was set up to take 30 second exposures a second apart at iso 500, f3.5 and 18mm, till the battery died. Then I would wander down to change the battery and recharge the flat one. Hence all the gaps in the trails.

Really good fun watching StarTrails.de. slowly stack the 280 frames into the final image.

Feeling a little chuffed that it worked and looking forward to trying again.

Cheers
Deeno

Excellent work Deeno, looks great!

Going to the north is a good idea with the sky glow to the south.

In retrospect, I think the gaps in the star trails add to the effect of the movement of the stars. Really well thought out Deeno, and I think it gave you the opportunity to sneak off and have a stodgy.....Change the battery sure, sure, sure!!!!!!!

Deeno here’s my star trails from MMPC. Not as good as yours I’ve got some straight trails. Some sort of aberration? UFO? Stodgy death dive? I’ll try harder next time.

Well shot and composed deeno! you've caught so many stars in there!! you must be thrilled!

Before the next star party you should look into getting an AC adapter for your camera.. plug it in and let it snap shots all night without running the battery out.

Thanks for the inspiration Mike. Amazing how severe the southern sky glow looks, even from the Pony Club.

Good on ya Rick
You make me sound cleverer than I am. The only thought that went in to it was how to do it without being stuck minding the camera all night.
Do love those stogies though.......

Your off to a flyer mate.
Only difference between yours and mine is I shot at a much shorter focal length....
