Hi folks,
Nice to see clear skies hanging around for a few days..
Seeing hasn`t been the best but thats not stopping me giving the 20D a good run..
Here is my first go at M8 and is about 1hr-15min worth at iso 800..Would have been more but silly me half asleep left the cap on and took a extra 10 darks instead of 10 lights... .
Very happy with the finished image....
Very slight deconvolution then the usual processing in PS.
Only noise reduction was a despeckle and that was faded.
Image cropped then resized to 50% for posting..
All comments most welcome..
cheers Gary
Thanks for the comments Renormalised, Alex, Barb and Dave!
Barb and Dave, 3 months without imaging really would suck! Hope you get some nice clear skies soon down your way!
cheers Gary
Well done Gary, shame about the extra frames but it's still a stunning result.
Thanks Andrew! I will have to add on to it with some more data!
But yes I am a happy camper..

Yeah M16-M17 are on the list in the next month!
Want to redo the DARK TOWER (sounds scary hey) with a few hours data and add some more to this one...
Thanks again and I shall be giving my Eric modded 20D lots of work!

Firstly I love the pic, it's a brill shot of a great target.
I did the same target on Tuesday and got some ok data which I processed in Iris. I would like to pick your brain on these colors. I'm not familiar with your equipment, is your canon a 20da or just a 20d? (not 'just a', you know what I mean!! lol) I am intrigued with where all this blue is coming from in my picture. My canon is an unmodded 300d, the scope is a 12" newt and I don't use any filters or flatteners. When I processed it I use Jim Solomons recipe for RGB of 1, 0.51, 0.62. When in PS, I do saturate a bit but I don't change the color balance.
I would love to get some feedback from yourself and others on what the contributing factors are giving my image a lot more blue than your image, as an image of Eta Carina I posted earlier this year showed the same 'condition'.
P.S. Welcome back to me, I've been under my rock for a few months! LOL!

Hi George, Sorry for not answering your question earlier as I have been away and have missed it....
My camera is modded so having more red is not a problem for me. If you have a unmodded camera I find stretching the red channel using the curves function to be the easiest way. Keep a few nodes around the same point as the background to keep the background color balance changing and above the brightest areas of the neb and then pull the red channel up to you get the desired result..
Here is your image with a few minutes tweking doing this..
Hope thats helpful...
Nice image of M8 too!
cheers Gary
Very helpful thanks Gary. Curves are not my favorite subject, and one of those things I have to go and do some more tut's on. The tweaks you did on my image do make all the differance. Thanks muchly.
Thanks Jen, I'll have to get Gary to work his magic on that one too!
