I have mostly bought so paypal is goof for me - i have got funds back thru them twice.

Fees are bad for sellers hear - morewill sell with pickup i imagine

As a seller I've always offered direct deposit into my bank account, there's my protection. Goods are not released until the fund are in my account.

So now I'll do what a lot of sellers are doing and add the paypal fees to the final sale price.

I've bought using Paypal a number of times and 4 times that I remember it took 3 weeks or more for Paypal to release the funds to the seller.

That's strange Steve. I've used PayPal very often. Both as buyer & seller. Everytime the funds have arrived in the relevant account instantly.
That's why I like PP for international transactions. It's instant & there are no credit card numbers involved which could be re-used.

I use PayPal quite often and generally dont have a problem, those times it was delayed were all payments in Chinese accounts.
PayPal could offer or wouldn't offer any explanation either.

I have no problems using PayPal, I just have a problem with Ebay limiting other payment options we've used happily for years.

What good is market power if you don't exploit it?

I'm not a user of E-bay so I am indifferent...but as a stock holder, I think it is great!

I had same problem with payment to China on couple ocassions. It took PayPal over two weeks to release funds.

I thought their original plan to do this was squashed by the ACCC?

I use paypal often and find it great so I don't feel strongly either way.

I agree. I have had no problems with Paypal and appreciate the anonymity offered - ie, no credit card numbers for sellers.

Yup - another happy Paypal customer here. I'd MUCH rather use Paypal than hand my bank account details or credit card number out to anyone. Never had a problem and have used it over 200 times for both buying and selling.

Yeah, not sure what the problem is in China.
I have a guy there who refuses use PayPal.
If you pay in US$ it's no probs from your end, But when the Chinese person tried to transfer the US$ into their own bank account they are charged heaps as an exchange fee.

The time delay could be something to do with government intervention.
Having lived in China for a few yrs I know that it's very difficult to do anything without the Gov wanting to know what's going on.
As a "foreigner" every bit of mail I sent or received was opened & inspected. Anything of value which was included was usually stolen.

Quite frankly I was very pleased to see this .. in the past I simply would not buy anything unless they accepted Paypal. I was annoyed when I inadvertently found I bought something from someone that didn't offer Paypal...my time in precious and Paypal is by far the most hassle free and easy way of paying... I just push a button and off goes my money

The policy that bothers me more is the policy about insisting on registered or similar post... it's a pain in the you know what, takes longer, costs more, and I always end up having to go out of my way to to pick the item up because I'm not home when they fly by leaving a note in the mailbox. They should give buyers the option of taking the risk... I'm never going to claim anything from anyone

I have purchased many items on Ebay from local and oversea suppliers for many years without a hitch usinf EFT , credit card and it's always about dealing with a reputable supplier and applying the old addage "if it's sounds too good it probably is (a risk)".

Whatever happened too freedom of choice !!!

this is just another money grabbing ploy that will alienate many suppliers and buyers.

I buy and sell fair bit of stuff through Ebay, always use PayPal, don't buy if its not available. It gives me and the buyer/seller a measure of protection from fraud. Don't mind paying the fees.
Never had a problem with delayed payment on either kind of transaction in USA, UK or here in Aus, but I've never dealt with China (apart from Hong Kong). Any items I've sold/bought with paypal payment the transfer has been almost instantaneous.

Robert, the advantage of the registered post is that there is a record of the goods being shipped, and of being recieved. "In god we trust, all others need a paper trail"

Excuse my ignorance, but who pays the fees for the service? I've been forced to make a few payments using PayPal - I have some form of basic account with them, or I'm registered or something. I think I always pay what the seller asked (except PayPal's currency exchange rate isn't generous - but that is typical for all people managing currency exchange for you!). So is it the receiver of the funds who loses a fee?

The seller pays the fees, and as Paypal as I understand is owned by Ebay, you pay them your listing fee, a final account fee and the PayPal fee.

I have no problem with using PayPal, I just don't like the idea that you have to use it.
Some sales are easier through EFT or COD. Now our options are limited.

I'm pretty sure the accc stopped them from making it compulsary for sellers. I also got that email from them as did everyone else with an account I guess. Lets see how the accc responds to the email.

They are trying this on here in oz first cos of the small market. I also like to pay via paypal, it has saved my bacon a couple of times now, but, we have a conflict of interest here. Ebay and Paypal are the same company.

That is like Holden ordering you to have your vehicle serviced at a holden dealer or they will void your warranty.

meh! i have a apypal acct... you can attach bank acct to paypal now so it worries me not
