Prawn Nebula ( IC4628) QHY8

Shot a little while back.... ive reprocessed it several times before submitting it, im learning not to just accept the first try.

As per the M8 image i took getting the color balance right was interesting, i believe this is a pretty close effort.

I was suprised to see some faint reflection nebulosity surrounding the nebula, not what i had expected but it is around M8 and the running chicken nebula and others so i am content to leave it as it is. The whole of the area has some form of nebulosity around it (added a Ha shot of the region to show how much)

This was shot with the 12 inch F5 newt,qhy8 gain 50 and offset 117, and is the result of best 30 of 37 separate 6 min frames. plus the usual calibration files.

First image is the whole frame, second is a crop at 50% the last is a 4x4 binned Ha (posted previously just here for the comparison of nebulosity)

for those with a critical eye the stars are not perfectly round ...but close.

Beautiful images, especially like the monochrome, very fine detail coming through. What mount are you using?

Try using Median to combine your subs, as you have some hot pixels that are showing some trails as you sum them.
Or do a hot pixel removal.

Apart from that, the H.a looks great, shows all the neb nicely.

I like it Clive. Colours are looking good. Would have expected more detail from the Ha data. I take it you didn't blend this with the RGB. Perhaps some tweaks on the R channel would bring out the vibrant reds but this is purely a personal taste. Well done.

Rob- using a Losmandy G11, its pretty much loaded to the max, have put pic for you of my current setup (note have tidied up the cables since then)

Gama- Since stacking the Ha shot i have ticked the hot pixel removal box.... should be ok from now on

Mike- thanks for looking, noticed on your last post you had an image on the way...... been a while for you since you moved into bright light territory.

Tamtarn- looks like we've had our run for now, plus i noticed last night moons well up at dark ....... fortunately i still have a couple of images to work on.

Ric- the colour balance was guessed at by grabbing a couple of images that had been done previously with lots of grey background... doing a colour balance on them and then using that setting on this image. still theres always room for improvement and ideas...... largely why i put up images as the feedback is invaluable. thanks for looking.

I actually prefer the color balance in the original image. This one is a bit yellowish this end...

Yes I liked the M8 reflection in the original and the Ha was a cracker. Great work and great to see others experimenting/ learning re the colour processing too.

Hi Clive, I think I like the first image better. Boy that is one big scope. Your ladder doesn't look big enough. I have an 8" f5 I must give it a go with the QHY8 But after I get the MPCC.
Nice detail in the nebulous area. Well done.

Thanks for looking and the honest opinions, one can look at an image for hours while processing it and sometimes miss the obvious.

Hagar.... the ladders not big enough but i can reach the camera with my arm outstretched. I dont do the visual as a rule, i can use the other chair and stand on the very top seat level and look through it if i feel like it though....... have had a look a couple of times but sadly i have woefull night vision, even after hours of adapting i will bump into things.... while my wife laughs at me because she can see well.
