Pluto's gone, now for the Milky Way!

Seems an astronomer is calling for a couple of the spiral arms of the Milky Way to be demoted, much the same as has been done with poor Pluto.

This is as a result of a scan by the Spitzer space telescope.
There's an article about a 5 gigapixel image taken by Spitzer - don;t get too excited though, it's infra red

I like this statement... "Trying to create a picture of the Milky Way is about 40% hard science and 60% imagination,"

That 60% leaves a fair amount of room for amatuer astronomers to still make discoveries...plus use that imagination mentioned
