Rho Ophiuchus complex with 450D and 300mm f2.8 lens
Hi
After I got home from the Newcastle Astro Society meeting I set up to image this with the mighty 300mm f2.8 flourite lens from Bert, and tried the un-modded 450D. A modded camera didnt seem so necessary for this as most of the nebulae isnt red expept for a few small sections, most is yellow and blue reflection in nature.
6x10 mins ISO200. The 14 bit images and bigger pixel count work well. Hutech LPS filter used, as severe filter than the UHCS filter, which is better suited to emission line nebulae.
A fog got as far as the bottom of my street, covering all the low lying areas, but later retreated. It was very moist and dewy but perhaps it may have blocked some light pollution from streetlights. Had to manually remove a slight gradient across the image as levels weer strongly stretched to bring out the detail.
Incredible to be able to get stuff as faint as this from within a decent sized city, digital cameras just get better and better

Very nice Scott, very nice indeed, hell that is a beautiful area of the sky, now I can see the area i happen to have missed in my shot.
Those 300mm lenses do a great job, and you have used it to its limits, well done.
What a truly beautiful image Scott. That is a an amazing view. I hadn't noticed before the much fainter 2nd globular in the background. Love the colours too
a lovely area of the sky, i havent got a good APO lens to cover this, nice job scott ,
i will just shoot it a tiny bit at a time. Will have to target the triplet star combination next time what youve done shows its quite a bit brighter.... i did the doublet the other day (see pic)
Thanks all. The modded cams always have the advantage on red emission nebulae for sure
Alchemy you could do a mosaic, would take time but gee a fantastic image would result
