Nice detail, Steve.. colours a bit muted no doubt from the full moon.

But I think you've over-sharpened it as well, there's black halos around the stars.

Nice work though!

Good one Steve. Looks like you've lowered your white point rather early in the routine which has caused the stars to become rather saturated. Plenty of detail there.

Did you use gradientXterminator with this image and the Helix?

If so how did you apply it?

Lovely details in the Eagle Steve, the pillars look good with their subtle colours.

Cheers

Thanks Mike, I'll probably rework it during the next week of bad weather here in the west.

Yes Jase ... I used GXT and followed Mr Cromans instructions but it did seem to do a global effect on one run even though I had selected a specific area ... however I hadn't had much sleep before processing and may have stuffed up somewhere. As I've said in reply to Mike I will probably rework it soon.

With pending rain etc for the next week I decided to get out there last night Leon and give the obs a run.

Thanks Ric, sometimes the pillars tend to wash into the background but for some reason last night I got some definition despite the full moon.

Steve, yes, it will do that if not careful. You need to mask the highlights such a nebulae, galaxies and stars so you are only applying it on the background. If not, you'll find that the balance background colour function will fade the foreground features. This is what I suspect has happened to your two images, both have muted colours. It will still have a minor effect on the foreground, but you can then raise the black point to re-gain contrast. Personally, I think the moon is only partly to blame, but without having a good look at the subs its difficult to say. Keep up the good work.
