NGC4565 John Dobsons favourite Galaxy

Hi All,

Imaged this one after (Supernova Hunter) Bob Evans showed it to me through the big 30 inch dob at the Linden Observatory. He told me that this is John Dobsons favourite galaxy.

So I figured I better get back to my Celestron GPS11 and start imaging this famous galaxy. The problem was I had set up with the EQ wedge and it took me a couple of hours to polar align before I could start imaging.

Luckily it was one of those near perfect nights, no dew, excellent seeing and three other WSAAG imagers and I stayed up until 4.00 am imaging galaxies and nebulea. A great evening/morning for astronomers...

This is a good example of what can be achieved with a Meade DSI III, 100 x 11 seconds subs with an 11 inch telescope and f1.8 Hyperstar lens. I am very happy with the results this combo is achieving for me.

Regards
Gerry

You have achieved very nicely Gerry, great effort with quite some detail in that one, well done.

Nice image indeed Gerry, I agree it is a very spectacular galaxy. The view through the 30" must have an awesome sight to see.

Cheers
