PC Problems

Has anyone had trouble with these poping up C:\WINDOWS\System32\autoexec.nt error while trying to open up programs etc. Ive had troubles uninstalling nortons systemworks using the windows unistall program and last night i tried opening up the Registar/imagesplus demo downloads and kept getting 16 bit error messages relating to nortons in the registry. After a bit of Googling i found this patch in this froum thread http://forum.theispguide.com/isp-ftopic2830.html and ive managed to get the demos working . Amazing what you can find on the net , unfortunately a over reliance on puter buddies has made me lazy with pc lingo/ways so i hope this makes sense.....cheers

Yep! That Norton's is a real bugger to un-install successfully! Now a norton hater lol...can't remember how I fixed that now, there was no patch available at the time.

Ok....its has nothing to do with Nortons.

Here is 2 options.

Option 1.

Here is how you fix the problem Stuart.....I hope your experienced with computers as its no easy task....

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;324767

Option 2 if your very very lucky.

Go to C: drive and open up your windows folder...then go into your repair folder and find the file called autoexec.nt copy this file into your system32 folder.....

If your lucky this will work..if your not you have to do option 1....if option 1 is too difficult then I'm afraid a system format is your only option...or send it to a tech.

Hope the easy option 2 works for you.

P.S I never got that Imageplus program to work in the first place.

Welcome to the club. Nortons products are IMHO crap; they're the biggest performance reducer you can possibly put on your P.C. and in my experience have a history of being buggy, not to mention overly complex for the average Joe. Norton made his name with some very good disk recovery tools and has ridden on that reputation ever since.

I get the same problem, so I just keep the autoexec.nt file in a handy location and just copy it over everytime. It's a real PITA but works.
